There has never been a more important moment to move our country from "Oh, Canada" to "Go, Canada." That is exactly what Shift Canada is here to do.
- Shift Canada was founded in 2024 by Richard Abboud, CEO of Forum Asset Management, and Mitch Frazer, Managing Partner at Mintz LLP, with a vision to shift Canada's culture toward greater boldness, ambition, and entrepreneurial courage.
The idea grew out of a shared conviction that Canada's economic stagnation wasn't just a policy problem — it was a cultural one. At the time of founding, Canada's per-capita GDP had fallen for six consecutive quarters, with several provinces ranking among North America's poorest jurisdictions. Reversing that trajectory required more than government action or business investment alone. It required a fundamental shift in how Canadians — and especially young Canadians — think about risk, failure, and ambition.
Richard and Mitch had been collaborating for over a decade to find a cause worthy of building a charity around, something that would combine Richard’s passion for entrepreneurship and Mitch’s passion for education.
They founded Shift Canada as a way to act on their shared vision for changing Canadian mindsets through entrepreneurship and education. Forum Asset Management provided the founding donation to launch the charity, backing the belief that building a bolder Canada was both an urgent priority and a long-term bet worth making.
From the outset, Richard and Mitch anchored Shift Canada's work in education. They believed that lasting cultural change starts early — that teaching a young Canadian to see failure as a stepping stone rather than a stopping point could unlock something far bigger than any single classroom. That belief became the Shift Failure program, now reaching more than 600,000 students across every province and territory in the country.
