Richard Abboud

Richard Abboud

Richard Abboud is Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Toronto’s Forum Asset Management. Forum made its initial principal investments in 2002, but it has since generated investment, development, divestiture and fully committed financing of more than $3 billion, with principal investment activities having yielded a cumulative return on invested capital in the top 1% of alternative asset managers. Today, Forum’s enterprise value of assets under management is $1.7 billion. Abboud is an accomplished entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in the areas of real estate investment and development, infrastructure development, public private partnerships, power investments and private equity. Abboud also serves on the Business Council of Canada – made up of over 150 business leaders committed to helping the country reach its full potential – and is a proud member of YPO’s global leadership community. He has also held and currently holds positions on numerous not-for-profit and corporate boards throughout his career. A passionate entrepreneur, inspiring leader and active philanthropist, Abboud's work focuses on fostering entrepreneurship, education, social equity and broader economic opportunity in the community.

Mitch Frazer

Mitch Frazer is Managing Partner of the Toronto office of US law firm Mintz, as well as the Chancellor of Ontario Tech University. His practice focuses on all aspects of pension, benefits and employment law. He is the co-founder of the National Institute on Ageing at Toronto Metropolitan University, a former adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and a published author. Frazer is vice-chair of the North York General Board of Governors, a member and former chair of the TFS Board of Directors, chair of the Western Law Advisory Council, the immediate past chair of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Board of Governors and a former member of the Ontario Science Centre Board of Trustees. Frazer was named one of the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada by Canadian Lawyer magazine and is a recipient of a number of awards and honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Ontario Bar Association’s Award of Excellence in Pension and Benefits Law and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Toronto Metropolitan University. He has also been admitted to the Order of Ontario. Frazer is an avid runner and has completed all six Abbott world marathon majors.

Tate Abols is Managing Partner, at Toronto’s Forum Asset Management. Tate has spent the majority of his career in the private markets and is responsible for building out new asset classes and platforms as Forum grows its business. Prior to joining Forum, Tate spent 15 years with Onex Corporation, working both as an investor in the company’s private equity fund and corporate development for the parent public company. He was directly involved in investing over $5 billion of capital in businesses, covering sectors including asset management, healthcare, services and building products. Prior to Onex, he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at RBC Capital Markets where he was involved with over $18 billion of transactions. Tate holds an Honours Business Administration degree (with Distinction) from the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Huron University College, University of Western Ontario.

Rola Dagher returned to Dell Technologies as Global Channel Chief in 2020, having previously served three years as president of Cisco Canada. Prior to this, she held various sales leadership roles at Dell and Bell Canada. Dagher has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Channel Chiefs of 2022-23 and a 2022-23 Channel Influencer by CRN. She has also been included in CRN’s 2023 Women of the Year, Top 100 Execs, Power 100, Inclusive Leaders, and Women of the Channel. Her commitment to empowering women is well established, having been named as one of the 2020 Top 25 Women of Influence by WXN, as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100, and as the 2019 Woman of the Year by Women in Communications and Technology. She was also named the 2021 Executive of the Year by LebNet and was selected as one of RBC’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrant winners for 2019. Dagher is a co-founder of the BlackNorth Initiative and an active member of the 30% Club advisory board, where she supports Catalyst’s work to accelerate progress for women in the workplace. A champion of health and wellness, Dagher sits on the board of trustees for SickKids Hospital, is a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Canada board of directors and serves on the University of Waterloo Dean’s Advisory Council.

Rocco Rossi was President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce for six years, though his experience encompasses the fields of general management, philanthropy, public policy, politics, business strategy and new media. For example, as CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation from 2004 to 2009, Rossi oversaw four consecutive years of record fundraising raising over $500 million in total and launching many new, life-saving initiatives. As CEO of Prostate Cancer Canada from 2013-2018, he led many initiatives that ultimately led the Financial Post to rate PCC one of the three top health charities in Canada in 2017. At Boston Consulting Group, he provided strategic advice to Fortune 500 companies in a wide range of industries in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Rossi also served at TORSTAR (publisher of the Toronto Star), as Vice-President, Strategic Planning & New Media, and Labatt as Vice-President, Interactive Media. A past board member of United Way of Greater Toronto, Rossi has been an active community builder. In fact, in 2012 he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his Philanthropic and Community service. Rossi was appointed CEO of Shift Canada in April 2024.

Janet Bannister

Janet Bannister is the Founder and General Partner of Staircase Ventures, which invests in Canada’s most promising early-stage tech companies. Prior to launching Staircase Ventures, Bannister was Managing Partner at Real Ventures, one of Canada’s largest and most active early-stage investors. Bannister is also a graduate of the prestigious Kauffman Fellows program, a global network of the world’s top 1% of investors and innovation leaders. She is very active in the Canadian tech ecosystem, the Co-Chair of C100 and serves on the Boards of the Ivey Business School and LEAP, a social venture accelerator. She is also a mentor at Creative Destruction Lab. In addition, Bannister was Honorary Co-Chair of the Princess Margaret Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2022, the largest single fundraising event in Canada.

Brent Belzberg is the founder and Senior Managing Partner of TorQuest. He formed TorQuest in 2002 following the 2001 sale of Harrowston, Inc., a publicly traded investment fund he founded to invest in and build businesses in 1992. Outside TorQuest, Belzberg serves as a Director of Sinai Health System, having previously acted as Chair. He is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the University of Toronto. Belzberg’s previous outside directorships include CIBC, O&Y REIT and Four Seasons Hotels. Belzberg was President of First City Financial Corporation from 1991–1993. In 2018, he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work as a business leader and philanthropist. Belzberg received Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2023 for his significant contribution to Canada and the province of Alberta.

Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano

Iannacito-Provenzano is currently Provost and Vice-President, Academic at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She first joined TMU as vice-provost, faculty affairs in 2020, arriving from York University, where she held progressive academic administrative roles, including undergraduate program director, chair of a large department and both the associate dean, programs and associate dean, faculty affairs portfolios in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. With extensive experience in academic labour relations, in her role as vice-provost, faculty affairs, she advocated for equitable hiring and evaluation policies and helped develop initiatives dedicated to enhancing faculty professional development. In addition, Iannacito-Provenzano is one of the three executive co-chairs of both the Presidential Implementation Committee to Confront Anti-Black Racism and the TRC Strategic Working Group at TMU. Previously, she has served as president of the Canadian Association for Italian Studies (2020-2022) and vice-president of the Italian-Canadian Archives Project (2019-2021), and has been the recipient of numerous academic and professional awards, including the CIBPA Award for Professional Excellence for service to the community in October 2023.

Meghan Roach is the President and CEO of Roots Corporation (TSX: ROOT). Before becoming CEO of Roots in 2020, Ms. Roach served as the interim CFO. Prior to Roots, she worked at Searchlight Capital Partners, a private equity firm with operations in North America and Europe, at KPMG, and at Teachers’ Private Capital, the private equity arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. In addition, Ms. Roach has held numerous board roles with public and private companies globally. Beyond her contributions to Rogers Communications, Ms. Rogers-Hixon served as Chair of the Jays Care Foundation for 22 years. Ms. Rogers-Hixon is a founding partner at Generation Trust Advisors, a global consultancy specializing in family enterprises. Her other involvements extend to serving as a Director at Huron University College, University Health Network Foundation, a Leadership Board Member at Cleveland Clinic International, and a Trustee at The Bishop Strachan School. Ms. Rogers-Hixon holds a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. In recognition of her achievements, she was honored with a doctorate from Huron University College at Western University in November 2018.

Until the summer of 2023, Geoff Smith served as president and CEO of EllisDon. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors as Executive Chair and retains responsibility for the company’s Digital and Data strategy and execution, as well as for EllisDon’s Windjammer Landing Resort in Saint Lucia. Smith joined EllisDon in 1981 and was named president and CEO in 1996. He was crucial in creating EllisDon’s culture of entrepreneurial enthusiasm empowering employees to challenge the status quo and evolving EllisDon into a leading global construction services company. He also spearheaded the employee-ownership program where 100% of the company’s equity will be transferred to the company’s employees in order to create an environment of fairness, prosperity and innovation for the future.

Wes Hall is the chairman and founder of WeShall Investments, a private equity firm with a diverse portfolio of companies predominantly supporting BIPOC entrepreneurs. His expertise was invaluable on the complicated dispute between Toronto-based Goldcorp and Nevada-based Glamis Gold from 2004 to 2006, Xstrata PLC's USD$18-billion takeover of Falconbridge in 2006, and the $19-billion merger between Suncor and Petro-Canada in 2009. At Groupon, Ruparell also founded, built and led Groupon's billion dollar product arm, Groupon Goods. Ruparell is the Founder & Principal of TwoGoose, his private family office with a current focus on incubating and acquiring majority stakes in consumer product companies, investing and building in consumer health and ownership in professional sports teams. He has served as the youngest ever Trustee on the Chicago Architecture Foundation Board, and on the Executive Advisory Boards of the Canada-US Business Council and Techweek.
